Amanita phalloides belong to the genus Amanita, in which most of the most poisonous fungi known are classified. They stand out for their beautiful greenish-yellow color, but they're called the "death cap" for a reason. They are one of the few poisonous species that contain not just one, but three highly toxic substances capable of killing a person through just a few grams consumed. Damage caused mainly to the liver and kidneys is irreversible even before they cause symptoms and emergency transplantation of these organs is the only way to reverse the condition - if there is time. Many accidents occur due to the similarity of this species with other harmless, edible and tasty ones.
A. phalloides commonly appears in coniferous forests throughout the northern hemisphere in general, Asia and Australia.
